About KayaCalendar
KayaCalendar lists South Africa's public holidays for 2026 to 2028 with long weekends and leave ideas, counts working days, and shows the gazetted public school terms. It is part of KayaWise.
Why "KayaCalendar"?
"Kaya" is South African slang for home. Every household, employer and school family plans around the same dates, and they should be easy to find and correct, with the Sunday rule already applied.
Where our dates come from
- The Public Holidays Act 36 of 1994: the 12 holidays in Schedule 1 and the Sunday rule in section 2(1).
- Special public holidays declared by the President under section 2A, as published on gov.za (for example Election Day, 4 November 2026).
- The public school calendars for 2026, 2027 and 2028 published by the Minister of Basic Education in the Government Gazette.
- Section 18 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act for working on a public holiday.
- Every rule in our code records its source link and the date we checked it, and each page shows those sources. Where official sources disagree, we say so on the page.
- Last full review: 30 October 2026.
What we are not
We are not a government website and we do not give legal advice. Check important dates with gov.za, the Department of Basic Education, your school or your employer.
How the site is funded
The site may show clearly labelled display advertising in future. We do not use affiliate or referral links, and adverts never change a result.
